Tamang Heritage Trek

Tamang Heritage Trek is an amazing trek offering travelers a peek into the culture and lifestyle of the Tamang people who are the mountain dwellers of the Langtang region. The Tamang heritage trail is a newly opened trekking route located between Mount Langtang and Ganesh Himal.

Lying just north of the Kathmandu Valley, the Tamang Heritage Trail is perhaps the most accessible trekking region in Nepal. Langtang is the region of ancient Tibetan Monasteries, Rhododendron and Bamboo Forests, Majestic Waterfalls, Snow-Capped Himalayas, & many sacred lakes, reflecting the solitude and the serenity of the Himalayan scenery.

Tamang is the indigenous inhabitant of the Langtang region of Nepal. The ethnic group has held its traditional lifestyle which hasn’t changed much since the beginning of the settlement. The exposure to the unique culture and lifestyle of the Tamang, their warm welcome, their traditional mountain houses, ancient monasteries, Gompas add makes the trail all more exciting.

The craftsmanship, dress, traditionally built stone-mud houses and the beautifully carved wooden porches in Tamang villages are widely appreciated. If the trekking is done during the festival time like Lhosar, the trekkers can observe the traditional Syabru dance, Khamba dance and other wonderful performances.

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, our company representative will meet and welcome you to Nepal and then you'll be transferred to your confirmed hotel. Once you finish the check-in procedure, you can rest & relax at the hotel. Later you will be accompained by the office staff for a short tour of Thamel to make you familiar with some good restaurants, ATMs, money changer and other necessary places you might need during your stay in Thamel.

The very next morning, after breakfast you will leave for a full day sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley. You can visit the sacred Pashupatinath Temple and Swyambhunath, very ancient and essentially enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath and the fine arts and historical architecture of Kathmandu Durbar Square reflecting the ancient Nepalese culture which is the highlights of our guided tour.

A visit to Patan City will enchant you with its famous fine arts and historical architecture. On return to your hotel, you will have time to explore the local area, have dinner and perhaps take a leisurely stroll through the famous streets. Finally, day ends with a Authentic Nepalese Dinner in Nepali Cultural Restaurant.

After morning breakfast we drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu for about 7-8hours drive. You will witness lovely scenery of white snowcapped mountains like Mt. Annapurna II, Manasalu, Ganesh Himal and other minor peaks along the route and as well as the green landscape of hillock, rivers, and village.

Enjoy the Himalayan views and lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. The scenery of foothills and ridgeline vistas goes through the Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati and Dhunche you feel as if you are heading towards low land. We take our Lunch at the Trishuli Bazaar before continuing further to Dhunche. We descend to Syabrubesi for the overnight stay.

We start the trek from Syabrubesi with an ascent to we reach the viewpoint where we can get a spectacular view of Ganesh Himal, Gosaikunda range and the Goljang valley. From here the trail descends to Goljang valley enjoying views of the Ganesh Himal, Shishapangma, LangtangLirung and others. We continue until we reach the village of Gatlang, a small beautiful village on the hillside with traditional stone houses. Overnight at Gatlang.

Today’s walk begins by descending to Thangbuchet, by a lovely river. After lunch, the trail heads up again, across a hanging bridge and climbing to Tatopani, your stop for the night. The town’s name literally means ‘hot water’ in Nepali, and there are tons of this name all over Nepal. Unsurprisingly, here you can enjoy the natural hot springs, with water that comes straight out of the ground. Locals believe that the waters have a healing quality, and it will certainly ease away any aches and pains from the trek.

Today we trek from Tatopani to Thuman via Brimdang and Nagthali. We ascend to Nagthali Danda,a hilltop with amazing views of snow capped Himalayas. We traverse through the dense alpine forest and reach the small Tamang settlement of Brimdang. We continue walking uphill to Nagthali where we get to enjoy the mesmerizing views of Langtang, Sanjen, Kerung and Ganesh Himal accompanied by warm tea. After the warm tea, we continue our walk to reach a Tamnag village of Thuman. Overnight in Thuman.

Today’s walk begins along a flatter section of trail, then descends to Timure. It follows part of the old trade route to Tibet, and in fact, Tibet is not far away— just three hours’ walk. However, it’s not possible to walk across the border these days, and there’s a heavy police presence along the roads in this area.

After lunch, the trail continues to Briddim, another Tamang village, where you’ll stay in a local home for a truly unique experience. All accommodation, lodgings, and food are offered at local houses on a rotational basis, so you can be sure that your stay is benefitting the whole community and not just one or two enterprising families (as is sometimes the case with hotels and lodges).

Today is an easy three-hour walk back down to Syabrubesi. Have lunch there, and then spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring. Syabrubesi is a small town, and there are some shops selling local handicrafts made by women, such as colorful aprons and shawls in the local style.

Drive back to Kathmandu while enjoying the mountain scenery en route. Leisure day at Kathmandu followed by farewell dinner & celebration. You can ask your guide to take you on a sightseeing trip inside Kathmandu Valley. On this day you can go to the various museums around the valley including the Narayanhiti Museum which earlier used to be the residence of the last king of Nepal. You may also go to the hilltop of Nagarkot. After some sightseeing around the world heritage sites in the valley, you will have a farewell dinner and enjoy with your Nepali friends and guide. You might even make plans for extending your stay for Chitwan jungle safari, rafting activities, and more with your guide.

Finally it’s SEE OFF TIME. There is nothing to do but trade emails with your travel companions and organize your photos. You will be picked from Hotel by representatives of Wongchhu Peak Promotion staff and dropped at Tribhuvan International Airport 3 hours earlier than your flight time with a hope to see you again. On your way home you'll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
