Baden Powell Peak

Baden Powell Peak, a mushroom shaped mountain is situated in the Langtang region. Seen from the south-west, Baden Powell Peak almost looks like Ama Dablam which is situated in the Everest region. It is surrounded by majestic peaks such as Langtang II, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa and Shishapangma in Tibet. Locally known as Urkema Peak, it was renamed Lord Baden Powell Peak (5,718m) in 2007. The peak was named after the father of the Scouts movement by the Nepal Government to mark the centenary celebration of the International Scouts Movement.

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, our company representative will meet and welcome you to Nepal and then you'll be transferred to your confirmed hotel. Once you finish the check-in procedure, you can rest & relax at the hotel. Later you will be accompained by the office staff for a short tour of Thamel to make you familiar with some good restaurants, ATMs, money changer and other necessary places you might need during your stay in Thamel.

The very next morning, after breakfast you will leave for a full day sightseeing tour around Kathmandu valley. You can visit the sacred Pashupatinath Temple and Swyambhunath, very ancient and essentially enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath and the fine arts and historical architecture of Kathmandu Durbar Square reflecting the ancient Nepalese culture which is the highlights of our guided tour. A visit to Patan City will enchant you with its famous fine arts and historical architecture. On return to your hotel, you will have time to explore the local area, have dinner and perhaps take a leisurely stroll through the famous streets. Finally, day ends with a Authentic Nepalese Dinner in Nepali Cultural Restaurant.

We spend a day preparing the final documents, gears & equipment check and so on. You can go for final shopping if something is missed before leaving out for the mountain.

To avoid traffic we will move early in the morning to Syabrubesi. We will pass through beautiful sceneries of green lush hills, occasional sight of the snow-covered mountains along with some of the fastest flowing rivers of Nepal. Syabrubesi is the starting point of most of the treks and expeditions in the Langtang region so you can prepare for the trek and shop for any necessary trekking equipment. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

Walking alongside the Langtang River, we will slowly ascend to Lama Hotel. We will be crossing small quaint Tamang villages with beautiful stone houses and get the first glimpse of the Himalayas. The occasional prayer flags fluttering against the wind on the backdrop of the village look beautiful and provide great opportunities at photography.  Overnight in Lama Hotel.

Known for its rich flora fauna, this region offers plenty of beauty as we make our way to Langtang village. We will pass through Gumanechowk and Ghodatabela before reaching Langtang village. We will cross many small waterfalls and streams, lush meadow before reaching Langtang village from where we will get a view of the Langtang range. Overnight in Langtang Village.

Of great significance to the residents of this area, the Kyanjin Gompa looks beautiful against the backdrop of grey and white. The Buddhist influence so omnipresent we can see many prayer flags fluttering against the prayer wheel and the small prayer houses that people have built. You can also get views of Langtang Lirung (7227m) and Langtang II (6596m) from the village. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.

For acclimatization today we will hike up to Tserko Ri (4984m).  Through various pastures where yaks can be seen grazing, the sunrise from Tserko Ri is breathtaking. From a height of 4984m, it offers a wonderful view of the valley below and gives a panoramic view of Langtang (7,227m), Yala (5,500m), Shishapangma (8,013) and Dorje Lakpa (6,966m). It is a great time to take some beautiful pictures and after some exploration return back to Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.

The route from the base camp is an uphill climb. This little trek goes up through a Rhododendron forest. We follow the rhododendron bushes and cross a river. We head in a westerly direction up to the mountain and moved towards the south. The base camp at 4,987 m, takes around five to six hours to reach from Kyanjin. The place where we set up our base camp is a good open ground. It is a large rocky area but with fresh water flowing through it. The view from the camp is fantastic.

To the north, you have a magnificent view of Langtang Lirung, Langshisa Ri and Shisapangma in Tibet. To the south, the impressive south face of Naya Kanga (5844m) towers above. Since the camp area is totally flat, we can put up our tents easily. We pass the night at the base camp.

Today we rise up early in the morning and start our ascent to BP Peak summit. From base camp, we cross the rocky field and climb up about 50 metres until we get to a rocky slab on the right. From there we ascend the snowy 30 degree slope that leads to a glacier, which soon becomes a large glacial bowl. We zigzag your way up, keeping to the right, aiming towards the rock face to the west.

From here, the slope gets a little bit steeper about 35-40 degrees. At least 100metres of ropes are fixed. We stay on the ice and climb around the rocks until we get to the top of the ridge at about 5,500m. Then there is another steep portion .We fix another 10 metres of rope. A couple of crevasses are on the way up before we climb 100 m straight to the top. We need another fix rope to reach the summit. The ridge at the top is very narrow and has very little space.

From the top we have fantastic views of Shishapangma, Naya Kanga , Ganesh Himal and even Kathmandu valley on a clear day. We return back to base camp

6-7 hrs trek. Overnight in Lodge.

From Langtang village we trek to Ghora Tabela. We stop briefly for lunch and thereafter continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.

From Lama Hotel, we head back to Syabrubesi. We can wander around the undulating path leading to the village. This gives us an opportunity to get an insight of the culture and custom of the Tamang community. We can also simply relax in the sun savoring the beauty of the majestic Himalayan Mountains.

5-6 hrs drive. Overnight in  Hotel.

Leisure day at Kathmandu followed by farewell dinner & celebration. You can ask your guide to take you on a sightseeing trip inside Kathmandu Valley. On this day you can go to the various museums around the valley including the Narayanhiti Museum which earlier used to be the residence of the last king of Nepal. You may also go to the hilltop of Nagarkot. After some sightseeing around the world heritage sites in the valley, you will have a farewell dinner and enjoy with your Nepali friends and guide. You might even make plans for extending your stay for Chitwan jungle safari, rafting activities, and more with your guide.

Finally it’s SEE OFF TIME. There is nothing to do but trade emails with your travel companions and organize your photos. You will be picked from Hotel by representatives of Wongchhu Peak Promotion staff and dropped at Tribhuvan International Airport 3 hours earlier than your flight time with a hope to see you again. On your way home you'll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
