Tibet

Tibet is an autonomous zone of China, on the high Tibetan Plateau on the north side of the Himalayas. For its soaring peaks it is called "The Roof of the Planet." It shares Nepal with Mt. Everest.

Its capital, Lhasa, is the site of hilltop Potala Palace, once the winter home of the Dalai Lama, and Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibet, revered for its golden statue of the young Buddha.
